# Lansweeper version

When you link a Lansweeper Classic installation to a [Lansweeper Platform](/docs/what-is-lansweeper) site, one of the [prerequisite checks](/classic/docs/cloud-linking-requirements) confirms that your sync server runs the minimum Lansweeper version required to connect.

## Why this check runs

Linking an outdated installation can result in an incomplete or faulty sync. Lansweeper Platform is updated regularly with new features and fixes, and an old local installation may be incompatible with the current Platform.

Your sync server must be up to date. For a consistent scanning and syncing experience, keep all your Lansweeper servers up to date.

## Resolve a failed check

Update your web server and scanning servers, including the sync server, to the latest Lansweeper version. Run the latest installer on each server and select **Upgrade**.

              Back up before you upgrade

Back up your installation before upgrading. For step-by-step instructions, see [Update Lansweeper Classic](/classic/docs/update-lansweeper-on-premises).

When all prerequisites pass, you can [link your installation to a site](/classic/docs/link-lansweeper-classic-with-lansweeper-platform).
