This article explains how to convert a custom report, what carries over, and how to read the result. Custom reports retire at the end of 2026 Custom reports are being retired at the end of 2026. Convert the ones you still need into dashboards before then, so you keep that reporting in a faster, more flexible format. Your original report stays intact Conversion works from a copy of the report's definition. It never edits, moves, or deletes the original report. If a conversion isn't what you expected, the report is still there, unchanged and ready to use. ## Prerequisites - You need one or more custom reports already created in the legacy Lansweeper interface. Built-in reports don't need conversion: an equivalent dashboard is already available as a template. - Only a site owner can convert a report to a dashboard. ## Convert a report to a dashboard 1. Go to **Reports** and select the **Custom** tab. 2. Select the checkbox next to one or more reports you want to convert. 3. Select **Convert to dashboard**. 4. Confirm the conversion when prompted. ![The Custom tab on the Reports page with four reports selected, an info banner explaining that only standard and custom fields convert while fields calculated by the report don't, and the Convert to dashboard button in the top-right corner](https://cdn.document360.io/21d5935c-1b73-44fa-bf5a-a8b0f5c67f25/Images/Documentation/custom-reports-multiple-items-selected.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-17T02%3A47%3A49Z&se=2026-10-17T03%3A47%3A49Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=jtmdrKxbrlESAKYoWHoJoCAnTO%2BZA8snEQhZCK7vwOU%3D) Conversion runs in the background and can take a moment for large reports. You can convert a report only once Once a report is converted, you can't convert it again if the result is **Converted** or **Converted with issues**. To try again with different settings, duplicate the original report, adjust the copy, and convert the copy. A **Can't convert** result is different: no dashboard was created, so you can convert that report again as it is. ## Check your conversion result When conversion finishes, a **Conversion complete** banner appears, and each report shows a result in the **Conversion status** column and, where a dashboard was created, a link to it in the **New dashboard** column. ![The Custom tab on the Reports page after conversion, with a Conversion complete banner and the Conversion status column showing Converted, Converted with issues, and Can't convert results, each linking to a new dashboard where one was created](https://cdn.document360.io/21d5935c-1b73-44fa-bf5a-a8b0f5c67f25/Images/Documentation/custom-reports-migration-complete.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-17T02%3A47%3A49Z&se=2026-10-17T03%3A47%3A49Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=jtmdrKxbrlESAKYoWHoJoCAnTO%2BZA8snEQhZCK7vwOU%3D) Every converted report shows one of three results: - **Converted**: the full report was rebuilt as a dashboard. Open it from the **New dashboard** column. - **Converted with issues**: the dashboard was created, but some parts couldn't be rebuilt. Select the status to see what was left out, and check those results before you rely on them. The dashboard's data table still holds the full data from your report, so no rows are lost. - **Can't convert**: no dashboard was created for this report. See [Handle a report that can't convert](/docs/convert-custom-reports-to-dashboards#handle-a-report-that-cant-convert) for what to do. ## What carries over Conversion maps a report's standard and [custom fields](/docs/custom-fields). Any part of a report built on those fields rebuilds as expected, including its columns and filters. ## What doesn't carry over Some parts of a report can't be mapped to a dashboard: - **Fields the report calculates itself**, computed inside the report's own query rather than stored in your data. The dashboard is still created, but these calculated fields are left out. - Certain groupings and totals a dashboard can't reproduce the same way. When this happens, the rest of the report still converts, and the dashboard flags what it left out. You can reproduce most of it yourself: see [Customize your converted dashboard](/docs/convert-custom-reports-to-dashboards#customize-your-converted-dashboard). ## Find and share your converted dashboard Lansweeper names a converted dashboard after the original report, with a **[converted report]** tag added to the title, so you can find it in your dashboards list. A converted dashboard shows up to three widgets that summarize your report's data, followed by a data table. How many widgets appear depends on the report. The widgets are Lansweeper's best-effort visual interpretation of your data, so treat them as a starting point and adjust them if you need a different view. ![A dashboard created from a converted report, titled ](https://cdn.document360.io/21d5935c-1b73-44fa-bf5a-a8b0f5c67f25/Images/Documentation/converted-dashboard-example.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-17T02%3A47%3A49Z&se=2026-10-17T03%3A47%3A49Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=jtmdrKxbrlESAKYoWHoJoCAnTO%2BZA8snEQhZCK7vwOU%3D) Once a dashboard is created, Lansweeper automatically shares it with everyone on the site. Only the site owner can edit it. ## Customize your converted dashboard Use the options below to reproduce a report's filtering, grouping, and calculated fields on the converted dashboard. ### Apply filters Use [dynamic filters](/docs/filter-dashboards) on the widgets to explore the data interactively. These filters aren't saved, so they reset when you close the dashboard. To change the data the table itself shows, duplicate the dashboard, then edit the table's filters in the copy. ### Group data If a report's grouping can be reproduced with a pivot table, conversion creates that pivot table for you. To group the table by a field yourself, duplicate the dashboard and add a pivot table to the copy. ### Recreate calculated fields Conversion leaves out fields the report calculates itself. To reproduce one, duplicate the dashboard, recreate the logic as a [derived field](/docs/create-and-manage-derived-fields), and [add it to the table](/docs/modify-dashboards). In most cases an equivalent derived field can replace the original calculation. A derived field is added to the asset dataset, so once you create it you can reuse it across other dashboards without building it again. Derived fields work row by row Derived fields can't perform aggregations, cross-row references, or joins across datasets. If a report calculates a value using one of these, you can't reproduce it with a derived field. Rebuild that logic as a dashboard-level calculation or filter instead. See [Derived fields limitations](/docs/about-derived-fields#limitations). ## Handle a report that can't convert A **Can't convert** result has two causes, and each calls for a different response. **A temporary problem.** The service was slow or unavailable during conversion. Convert the report again, and it will usually work. **The report can't be expressed as a dashboard.** Some reports rely on logic the dashboard model can't reproduce. These won't convert on retry. The report itself keeps working as it always has, so you can continue to use it as a report. ## Next steps - [Modify dashboards](/docs/modify-dashboards) to customize a converted dashboard's items, style, or data. - [Access classic reports](/docs/access-classic-reports) to view reports you haven't converted yet. ## Related - [Access classic reports](/access-classic-reports.md) - [About derived fields](/about-derived-fields.md) - [Lansweeper Dashboards: Real-time insights, zero manual queries](/lansweeper-dashboards.md)
