This covers every component you install on your own infrastructure: the hub, the IT and OT sensors, and the traffic sensor. Automatic updates are managed through groups, which apply a consistent schedule and configuration across multiple systems. All systems are initially placed in the Default Network Discovery Group, but you can edit or create groups to control update timing and configuration. Groups control more than updates A group also controls whether its sensors detect assets passively. See [Configure network visibility](/docs/configure-network-visibility). ## Automatically update Network Discovery ### View or manage groups 1. To see an overview of all groups, go to **Discovery > Groups**. 2. Review the list of groups, including their type, the number of assigned systems, and the corresponding maintenance period. ### Configure scheduled updates 1. In your Lansweeper Site, go to **Discovery > Groups**. 2. Select **Default Group Network Discovery**. By default, this group manages all your Network Discovery hubs and sensors. 3. To pause or resume the auto-updates, select **Enable scheduled updates**. 4. Select the days and times when updates should be applied. 5. Select **Assigned systems**. Select or deselect the systems you want to be assigned to this group. 6. Select **Save changes**. ### Add a new Network Discovery group 1. In your Lansweeper Site, go to **Discovery > Groups**. 2. Select **Create group > Network Discovery group > Add group**. 3. Enter a name and description for the group. 4. Choose the update schedule (day and time). 5. Select **Assigned systems** to pick which Network Discovery systems belong to this group. 6. Select **Save and finish**. ### Best practices - Keep the Default Group enabled unless you need different schedules for specific systems. - Use additional groups to stagger updates across regions or environments. - Regularly review the update schedule to align with your change management windows. - Group by system type or role if different hubs need different update timing. ## Pause or block automatic updates Turning off a group's update schedule is the recommended way to control when updates apply, because it keeps every system in the group consistent. 1. In your Lansweeper Site, go to **Discovery > Groups**. 2. Select **Default Group Network Discovery**, or the group your systems belong to. 3. Turn off **Enable scheduled updates**, or set the days and times when updates may apply. 4. Select **Save changes**. Pausing updates through a group stops scheduled updates from applying, but update files are still downloaded. Your site requires a minimum version Your Lansweeper Site requires a minimum Network Discovery version to stay in sync, so re-enable updates as soon as you can. ### Disable updates on a single Windows machine Though we don't recommend it, you can disable the update service on one Windows machine: ``` sc config "Lansweeper Network Discovery Update service" start= disabled sc stop "Lansweeper Network Discovery Update service" ``` ### Block update downloads To stop update files from being downloaded at all, block outbound access to Lansweeper's download servers. Run `nslookup download.lansweeper.com` to find the current IP addresses, then block them with a firewall rule, for example on Windows: ``` netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name="Block auto-update Lansweeper" dir=out action=block remoteip= enable=yes ``` This still allows access to the discovery gateway for your region, which the hub needs to sync data. ## Manually update Network Discovery In most cases, scheduled updates via groups are the best way to ensure your sensors and hub stay up to date. However, if needed, you can also manually update your hub and sensors at any time. ### Windows and macOS 1. In your Lansweeper Site, go to **Discovery > Systems > Download installers/packages**. 2. Download the latest Network Discovery installer for your operating system. 3. Run the installer without any parameters. The installer detects your existing installation and presents the **Actions by installer** screen, where you can update your current components, add new ones, or both. ![Installer window for Lansweeper Network Discovery with options for sensors and hostname.](https://cdn.document360.io/21d5935c-1b73-44fa-bf5a-a8b0f5c67f25/Images/Documentation/Actions-by-installer.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-11-05T01%3A57%3A40Z&se=2026-11-05T02%3A57%3A40Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=HH1NMsn%2FemSPtuuRUZXuCGpTQSpdAAIo%2Fk8WOqTcpq0%3D) ### Linux On Linux, the hub and sensors are installed from the Lansweeper repository, so you update them with your package manager. The repository package must still be installed on the machine. See [Install the IT and OT sensor - Linux](/docs/install-network-discovery-linux) if you need to add it again. Debian and Ubuntu (APT): ``` sudo apt update # refresh package index sudo apt upgrade # upgrade all installed packages ``` Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS, and Fedora (DNF): ``` sudo dnf check-update # check what's available (optional, informational) sudo dnf upgrade # upgrade all installed packages (alias: dnf update) ``` These commands upgrade every package on the machine, not only Network Discovery. To upgrade the Network Discovery packages on their own, name them explicitly, for example `sudo apt upgrade lansweeper-network-discovery-hub lansweeper-network-discovery-it-sensor`. To manage or automate these updates yourself, or to update using another package manager, refer to your package manager's documentation.
