Scan an Azure cloud environment

Prev Next

Lansweeper Classic can scan resource groups and virtual machines hosted on Microsoft Azure. Lansweeper creates an asset for each resource group and each virtual machine.

Scanned data includes resource groups, virtual machines and their types, disks, extensions, IDs, network interfaces, regions, security groups, subnets, tags, and more.

Prerequisites

Verify you meet the Azure scanning requirements. You need the following values from that article:

  • Subscription ID
  • Directory (tenant) ID
  • Application ID
  • Application password

Scan Azure resource groups and virtual machines

  1. In the web console, go to Scanning > Scanning Targets and select Add Scanning Target.

  2. Select Azure from the Scanning Type dropdown and enter your subscription ID.

  3. Specify a scanning schedule and submit the scanning target.

Scanning server tabs and resource group filters

If you have multiple scanning servers, each server has its own configuration tab. To scan only specific resource groups, add them with the Add Resource Group Filter button.

  4. Go to Scanning > Scanning Credentials and add your directory (tenant) ID, application ID, and application password as an Azure credential. Either edit the Global Azure credential or select Add new Credential to create a non-global credential.

    One credential for all subscriptions

If you edit the Global Azure credential, Lansweeper uses it for all Azure subscriptions and you can skip the next step.

  5. If you created a non-global credential, map it to your subscription: on the Scanning Credentials page, select + Credential next to the subscription.

  6. Wait for your scanning schedule to trigger, or start a scan right away: go to Scanning > Scanning Targets and select Scan now next to the Azure target.

Azure scans don't appear in the scanning queue

Lansweeper processes Azure scans in the background, so they don't show up in your scanning queue.

  7. To view the scanned data, hover over Assets at the top of the web console and select an Azure asset type. The overview pages list your resource groups and virtual machines, and you can select any asset to open its asset page.

You can also view scanned Azure data in built-in or custom reports, or in the Azure dashboard widget.
