Scanned hardware data arrives in inconsistent forms, such as several spellings of the same manufacturer name. Lansweeper Platform normalizes that data so each manufacturer and model is named the same way across your inventory, whatever the source reported.
Using machine learning, Lansweeper Platform normalizes the manufacturer and model fields. For example, an asset with its manufacturer listed as "VMware" or the older "VMware Inc" is normalized to "VMware".
Data consolidation flow
The normalization and consolidation process follows a specific flow to determine which information appears:
-
Locked fields: If the manufacturer or model fields are locked, the locked value takes priority and appears throughout Lansweeper Platform. Locked fields are never updated or normalized.
- To lock a field, select the asset name, select Edit, and toggle the field lock.
- If you edit assets through the Lansweeper API, fields are locked by default. To unlock a field, select the asset name, select Edit, and toggle the field lock.
-
No locked value: If no field is locked, the normalized value appears throughout Lansweeper Platform.
-
No normalized value: If no normalized value is available, Lansweeper Platform displays the value exactly as it was scanned from the asset.
-
No scanned value: If the scanner finds no value, the value you set manually in the unlocked field appears throughout Lansweeper Platform.
If you use custom data for the manufacturer or model fields, lock those fields.
