Asset states, types, relation types, groups, and custom fields you created in your Lansweeper Classic console can be managed from a site in the Lansweeper Platform. This gives you a smooth way to move your day-to-day operations from Lansweeper Classic to your site without losing the custom data you've already configured.
This feature is available only in Lansweeper Classic version 11.3.0.5 and newer. If you're on an older version, update to the latest release first.
The benefits of enabling this feature:
- Migrate operations to your site: Manage the custom asset data you created in Lansweeper Classic from your site, so you can transition your daily operations to your site without losing custom data.
- Custom asset data in views and reports: Use your custom asset data in your views and reports.
- Custom asset data in integrations: Include your custom asset data in your integrations.
- Multiple Classic installations: If you have multiple Lansweeper Classic installations, your custom asset data is federated into a single consolidated view in your site.
Review the requirements and considerations carefully before you enable this feature.
Requirements and considerations
- Required for views and reports: You have to enable this feature before you can use your Lansweeper Classic custom asset data in views or reports in your site.
- Enablement is permanent: Once enabled, this feature can't be disabled.
- Review fields before enabling: Confirm the names and details of your custom asset data fields are accurate first. After enablement, you have to update field names manually in both your site and Lansweeper Classic to keep them aligned.
- One-way sync: Updates in the Lansweeper Classic console sync to your site, but changes in your site don't sync back to Classic.
- Site owners only: Only a site owner can enable this feature.
What is custom asset data?
Custom asset data is the manually defined information about your assets:
Only static groups are available in your site. Dynamic groups are available in Lansweeper Classic.
Enable federated asset entities
Custom fields are enabled separately from asset states, types, relation types, and groups. Asset states, types, relation types, and groups are enabled together and can't be enabled individually.
-
Review your custom asset data in every Lansweeper Classic installation connected to your site.
Fields are matched only once, at enablement. Any later change to a field name or type isn't reflected in your site, so you have to update both manually.
-
In your site, go to Assets > Settings > Federate asset entities.
-
Enable Custom fields, or Asset states, types, relation types and groups.

-
Confirm that you're ready. Once enabled, it can't be disabled.
-
Select Enable.
A confirmation message appears. Updating custom asset data takes a few minutes. During this time, your inventory might temporarily show inconsistencies, which resolve automatically once the update completes.
Manage custom fields
Custom fields federation rules
These rules apply to all installations connected to a site:
- Same name and type: Fields with the same name and type are combined. Radio button lists, combo boxes, and Yes/No values become a dropdown with all values added as options.
- Same name, different type: Fields with the same name but different types create separate fields.
- Slot ID: The Slot ID isn't included in your site.
- Case and character sensitivity: Fields are case-insensitive, so "po" and "PO" are the same, but character-sensitive, so "P.O." and "PO" are different.
View, edit, delete, or add custom fields
In your site, go to Assets > Fields > Custom fields. For more information, see Custom fields.
Edit the values of custom fields
If you plan to manage your inventory from your site, or you need the values in your site and Classic to differ, select Lock against edits from on-prem. If you don't lock against on-prem edits, any change to that field's value in Classic overwrites the value you added in your site.
Changes you make to custom fields in your site aren't reflected in your Lansweeper Classic console.
To update custom field values:
- Go to Assets > Views.
- Select the asset you want to edit, then select Go to asset > Edit.
- Go to the field you want to edit.
- Edit the custom field. Optionally, select Lock against edits from on-prem.
- Select Save changes.
Manage asset states, types, relation types, and groups
Once enabled, manage each entity from your site:
- To manage asset states, go to Assets > Categorization > States.
- To manage asset types, go to Assets > Categorization > Types.
- To manage groups, go to Assets > Categorization > Groups.
- To manage relation types, see Create asset relations.
For more information on states, types, and groups, see Categorize your assets.

- Go to Assets > Views.
