Create and manage assets

Lansweeper automatically adds assets to your inventory when they're discovered during a scan. You can also add assets manually and edit or remove them at any time. To customize how assets are displayed and filtered, see Manage asset views. To organize assets with groups, types, or states, see Categorize your assets.

Create an asset

1. Go to Assets > Views.

2. Select Create asset.

3. Enter the following required fields:

   • Name
   • Installation
   • Type
   • State

4. Optionally, add any extra information about the asset.

5. Select Create.

Edit an asset

1. Go to Assets > Views.
2. Select the asset you want to edit.
3. Select Go to asset > Edit.
4. Make your changes.
5. Select Save changes.

Lock a field against the scanner

When you edit a field manually, a later scan can overwrite your value. Lock the field to keep the value you entered.

1. Go to Assets > Views.
2. Select the asset you want to edit, then select Go to asset > Edit.
3. Find the field you want to protect, for example State or Location.
4. Select Lock against the scanner next to the field.
5. Select Save changes.

A locked field keeps its manual value until you unlock it. To let scans update the field again, clear Lock against the scanner and save.

Delete an asset

1. Go to Assets > Views.
2. Select the asset you want to delete.
3. Select Delete.

Scan an individual asset

1. Go to Assets > Views.
2. Select the asset you want to scan.
3. Select Scan.
