Manage site owners

Prev Next

A site owner is the most privileged account type in a Lansweeper site. Site owners always have the Administrator role and access to all assets, and they can perform actions that no other account can.

What only site owners can do

Site owners can do everything Administrators can, plus the actions in this table. No other account can perform them, including Administrators and accounts with custom roles.

How site owners differ from roles

Site owner is a privilege level, not a role. Every site owner has the Administrator role, plus the owner-only actions listed earlier.

You can't grant owner-only actions through a custom role. The permissions you can select when you create a role don't include them.

Site owners and asset access

Site owners and Administrators always have access to all assets. You can't assign asset scopes to the Administrator role, so you can't restrict the assets that site owners and Administrators see.

To limit access to a subset of assets, such as the assets in one installation, create a custom role with an asset scope and assign it to the accounts.

Account type Asset scopes Asset access
Site owner Can't be applied All assets
Administrator Can't be applied All assets
Custom role Can be applied Only the assets in the assigned scopes

Make an account a site owner

Prerequisites

Steps

To make an account a site owner:

  1. In your site, go to Site settings > Account management.
  2. Select the account you want to make a site owner.
  3. Under Site owner, select Make this account a site owner.
  4. Select Save changes.
Choose site owners carefully

Site owners can delete the site and change site-level settings. Limit ownership to people who need that level of control, and consider having more than one site owner so that no single person is a point of failure.

Revoke site owner access

Revoking ownership removes the owner-only actions from the account.

Every site must have at least one site owner. Before you revoke ownership or remove the account of the only site owner, make another account a site owner.

To revoke site owner access:

  1. In your site, go to Site settings > Account management.
  2. Select the account you want to revoke site owner access from.
  3. Under Site owner, clear Make this account a site owner.
  4. Select Save changes.

To remove an account from your site entirely, see Remove an account from your site.
